Irvine went missing with another British climber, George Mallory, during their journey in June 1924, only about 240 meters from the summit of Everest, while they were trying to complete the first documented ascent of the highest mountain in the world.
While Mallory’s body was found in 1999, Irvine’s body was not discovered, nor was the camera that was with them, which may confirm or deny whether they had reached the summit.
