Her Excellency Ohood bint Khalfan Al Roumi, Minister of State for Government Development and the Future, will head the UAE delegation to the Future Summit during the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on September 22-23, 2024.
Through its participation in the historic summit, the UAE stressed the importance of building bridges and strengthening multilateralism to confront global challenges and build a more peaceful, inclusive and sustainable future for our planet and for present and future generations.
Her Excellency Ohood Al Roumi delivered the UAE’s statement during the opening plenary session of the summit yesterday, September 23, where she called on the international community to reaffirm its commitment to multilateral cooperation, and stressed the country’s confidence in working together towards a future that benefits from emerging technologies in a safe manner. Her Excellency also encouraged world leaders to confront challenges to protect the world for future generations.
“The current situation requires us to come together, agree, commit to concrete solutions, and prepare for emerging challenges, while reaffirming the principles of the UN Charter through multilateralism,” Minister Al Roumi said.
At the Future Summit, UN Member States adopted the Charter for the Future, as well as two annexes: the Global Digital Charter and the Declaration on Future Generations.
In the run-up to the summit, the UAE has been actively engaged in drafting the documents for these important outcomes, with priorities including: addressing climate change, including the UAE Agreement; promoting tolerance and peaceful coexistence; combating hate speech; developing technology and education; protecting culture; and supporting the Youth, Peace and Security, and Women, Peace and Security agendas.
As a reliable and constructive partner in the multilateral system, the UAE will continue its commitment to enhancing efforts and joint action that enable us to meet today’s challenges and create effective solutions for a better tomorrow.
