Ocean State Job Lot has announced a series of hiring events for its newest store in Pottstown.
The nearly 40,000-square-foot store is located at the Pottstown Plaza Shopping Center, 799 N. State Road. Work is continuing to prepare the new store location for a December opening.
Applicants are invited to the hiring events — scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 17, Tuesday, Oct. 22, and Thursday, Oct. 24, from 1 to 5 p.m. Because work is still underway at the new store, the hiring events will be held in the vacant space next to Domino’s in the Pottstown Plaza Shopping Center, according to a press release.
On-site interviews will be held on those days, and job offers will be made, the company said. Ocean State is looking to fill full- and part-time, as well as seasonal temporary positions. In addition, Ocean State Job Lot is accepting applications for all open positions listed on its careers website.
Plans for the Pottstown store were announced in August — part of the discount retail chain’s continued expansion into Pennsylvania. When it opens, the store will be the chain’s 11th in Pennsylvania and the second in Montgomery County. Ocean State also has a store in Berks County.
An Ocean State Job Lot store opened in March 2020 in Montgomery Township, occupying 37,415 square feet in the former Toys “R” Us, 980 Bethlehem Pike. When it opened, it was the third Ocean State Job Lot store in Pennsylvania.
In March 2023, Ocean State Job Lot opened a 47,000-square-foot store in the Shillington Plaza in Cumru Township, Berks County. The Cumru Township store occupies a portion of the space previously occupied by a Kmart, which closed in 2019. The discount retailer purchased the Shillington Plaza Shopping Center in March 2022.
In August, the company told MediaNews Group in an emailed response that the Cumru and Montgomery Township stores have been performing well, adding that Ocean State has been well received in Pennsylvania — the company’s newest state for expansion.
Ocean State Job Lot is the latest new tenant in the Pottstown Plaza Shopping Center. Among the plaza’s other tenants are Grocery Outlet, Goodwill, Tractor Supply, Domino’s and Applebee’s.
Headquartered in Rhode Island, Ocean State Job Lot sells brand-name, first-quality merchandise at closeout prices, including household goods, apparel, pet supplies, seasonal products and kitchen pantry staples. Founded in 1977, the company has 153 stores in New England, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, approximately 5,600 employees and annual sales exceeding $800 million.
