North Carolina man threw hot grease at deputies during standoff, deputies say

DUPLIN COUNTY, N.C. (WNCT) — The North Carolina Department of Public Safety Probation and Patrol Officers, Duplin County deputies, the Wallace Police Department, and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol assisted in the arrest of a Wallace man on Tuesday.

The NC Department of Public Safety Probation and Patrol Officers were attempting to arrest Demarcus Carney for a probation violation when Carney became agitated, barricading himself in his residence.

Deputies with the Duplin County Sheriff’s Office were notified of the incident. Once the deputies arrived they noticed that Carney was breaking windows and trying to throw what seemed to be hot grease on officers.

Negotiators with Duplin County attempted to talk Carney down to no avail. The Duplin County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team was then deployed and they used less lethal munitions to try and get Carney outside.

After this, the Special Response Team was able to make their way into the residence to detain Carney.
