North Carolina BBQ restaurant to serving Thanksgiving meals

North Carolina BBQ restaurant to serving Thanksgiving meals

COLUMBIA, N.C. (WNCT) — A restaurant in North Carolina is staying open on Thanksgiving but has no intentions of making any profit off it.

Stick Burnin BBQ is using its space to welcome the community in and to feed them free Thanksgiving meals.

After doing it for the first time last year, the staff is eager to do it again. Warm, to-go meals and desserts will leave people full on Thanksgiving and it’s free.

“Last year was a huge success for us. We served about 250 plates. We love our community,” Owner of Stick Burnin BBQ Denise Comito said. “We had such a good turnout. We had people that came in to get to-go food. We had the tables and the chairs set up to where people could come together and eat as a community, or if they wanted to eat by themselves, it was completely fine.”

The restaurant will open from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Thanksgiving. Staff members said they believe everyone deserves the chance to spend the holiday in a home away from home.

“Feels really good to give back to the community. People are in need of love and it’s, you know, something that we share here and with every customer, a little bit of love and every little bite that we we give out and it feels really great,” Staff member Julian Bateman said.

Throughout the days leading up to Thanksgiving, the restaurant has been accepting both food and money. If you’re in the area but can’t make it to the restaurant, the staff is willing to deliver to you.
