New public procurement website goes live

New public procurement website goes live

The government’s new public procurement website has gone live, the treasury announced on Friday.

The website allows for easier public access to all matters related to government contracts, how they are assigned and to whom they are assigned, as well as all the relevant details of any given contract.

The treasury described the website as “the core of support for all those involved in the field of public procurement and the main access portal for the important reforms and modern tools promoted by the treasury in the field of public procurement”.

“These changes are the tip of the spear of a broader strategy to strengthen transparency, efficiency, and innovation in the management of public resources,” the treasury said.

It added that Accountant-General Andreas Antoniades has “been aware of the need for reform in the field of public procurement” since he started in the role last year, as such procedures often face “operational, bureaucratic, procedural and legal obstacles”.

These obstacles, it said, “adversely affect the ability of public and wider public sector services to meet their needs in a timely, efficient and effective manner”.

It added that to this end, a “lack of transparency” in such procedures “often adds to the problems, creating fertile ground” for discontent.

The new website can be accessed at www.publicprocurement.gov.cy
