HIGH POINT, N.C. (WNCN) — A recent poll from High Point University found that more shoppers in North Carolina might skip Black Friday and opt-in on Cyber Monday deals.
The survey asked about 1,000 adults in North Carolina if they could choose between the two, would they plan on shopping the Friday after Thanksgiving or on Cyber Monday?
40% said they plan on shopping online during Cyber Monday, the poll said. About 37% said they were unsure or won’t shop during either days, and 24% said they plan to shop on Black Friday.
“Holiday shopping involves the interplay of buyer patterns, commercial advances and cultural pressures,” said Dr. Jerry Fox, chair of the Department of Economics in HPU’s Earl N. Phillips School of Business. “Online shopping has increased convenience, such as home delivery, price comparison, and 24/7 availability.”
Even though more shoppers prefer to shop online over brick-and-mortar stores, with numbers showing from the survey said 32% to 16% respectively, people who were surveyed said stress has not changed much over the past year.
When shoppers were asked about holiday shopping being more or less stressful than last year, most felt like the stress levels are about with 50% saying in the survey that the stress feels about the same this year as last year. Fox said that online shopping “has not reduced the stress of the holiday season.”
“Stress continues to arise from factors such as finances, time constraints and social expectations,” he said.
1,000 North Carolinians were surveyed between Nov. 14 and Nov. 21 under HPU Poll 108. Further results from the poll, including what was their favorite holiday pie, can be found at the Survey Research Center website.
