Monument to Greek revolution to be unveiled in Paphos

Preparations for the unveiling of a monument for the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution have been completed, the municipality announced on Friday.

The unveiling ceremony will be performed by the former president of Greece, academician Procopis Pavlopoulos.

The €160,000 project was awarded after competition to Lambrianos Koutsolambros Architects Ltd., to sculptor Arsentis Lisenkov, and visual artist Katerina Foukara, as well as the contracting company.

The team’s goal was to create a monument marking the significance of the Greek struggle for freedom, and will be accessible to all visitors, including children, through QR codes with links to texts and other works of art about the revolution.

The monument is located in Dionysios Solomos Square at the city’s centre, on 25th March Street, and will be flanked by a bust of Dionysios Solomos, Greece’s national poet and author of the national anthem of Cyprus and Greece.

The unveiling ceremony is scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 12, at 10.30am.
