Despite determination and a good performance on his part, misfortune stood in the way of Vladimiros Tziortzis getting on the podium at the EuroNASCAR Pro semi-finals in Germany at the Motorsport Arena circuit.
“I am satisfied with my performance but at the same time saddened by the misfortunes, since on Saturday without the mechanical failure we most likely would have had the first podium of the year” said the Cypriot driver.
Things got off to a perfect start in Saturday’s timed practice, with the 27-year-old qualifying for Superpole, in which the ten fastest times qualify. Unfortunately, then came the first misfortune.
“My seat pillow was moving towards the pedals so on the straights I had to move it with my feet to work the pedals,” explained the Academy Motorsport / Alex Caffi Motorsports driver, who eventually took seventh in the starting row for Saturday’s race, at which point he claimed a place on the podium.
For most of the laps of the race he was between third and fourth place, but with five laps to go “the differential locked the rear as it broke down and suddenly I lost control”, as he explains. Thus, the opportunity to be in the top three was lost and instead this problem dropped him to 20th place. In Sunday’s race, he started 10th and finished 11th.
Tziortzis is next in action in Belgium on the weekend of October 12-13, where the EuroNASCAR Pro finals will take place.
