Mexican senators display canvas in session: “Boric does not protect murderers in Nicaragua, like AMLO”

Mexican senators display canvas in session:

During a solemn session to receive the visit to Mexico of the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric, a group of parliamentarians in opposition to the Government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, held a canvas that stated: “Boric does not protect murderers in Nicaragua, like AMLO.”

In the middle of the activities of President Gabriel Boric during his international tour of Mexico, the president made a speech in the Senate of the Republic of this country.

The head of state’s speech was marked by his words in relation to the political prisoners of Nicaragua.

“We cannot look to the side, before the political prisoners of that country,” said Boric, where he also maintained that in Chile we also suffer human rights violations.

The president was applauded by the Mexican parliamentarians after delivering this message in the Senate Chamber of the Republic of Mexico; just a few minutes after a group of legislators from the opposition to the Government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, displayed a white canvas with black letters that said: “Boric does not protect murderers in Nicaragua, like Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO)”.

According to information gathered by BioBioChile, the senators referred to are Germán Martínez Cazares, Gustavo Madero Muñoz and Emilio Álvarez Icaza from the Plural Group. It is a group of independent parliamentarians made up of senators who have left various parties such as Morena and PAN in this case.

This took place in the middle of a solemn session to receive the visit of the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric.

It should be mentioned that the president is expected to return to Chile tonight.

“Prisoners politicians” in Nicaragua

Boric stated in his speech in the Mexican Senate that “Latin America cannot be silent” in the face of human rights violations in the region and expressly denounced the situation of “political prisoners” in Nicaragua.

This was stated by Boric in his speech at the solemn session of the Mexican Senate, on his last day of official visit to the country.

“We have learned that when human rights are violated in the peoples of Latin America, one cannot remain silent. I feel and beat in our Latin American hearts the solidarity that Mexico had with us”, said the president, referring to the “generous welcome” Chilean exiles after the 1973 coup.

“We cannot look to the side in the face of the crisis that Haiti is experiencing, we cannot look to the side in the face of the political prisoners in Nicaragua,” added Boric. Where he also recognized that both Chile and Mexico “also” they had suffered cases of human rights violations.

Boric’s statements contrast with the silence regarding the situation in Nicaragua on the part of the Mexican president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

It is worth mentioning that Mexico has not joined the denunciations of the majority of the international community from various international organizations, such as the Organization of American States (OAS), about the political repression in the Central American country.

Nicaragua has been going through a serious political and social crisis since April 2018, which has worsened after the controversial general elections of November 7, 2021, in which President Daniel Ortega was re-elected for a fifth term, fourth in a row and second together with his wife , Rosario Murillo, as vice president, with her main contenders in prison.

Ortega has been in power for 15 years and 10 consecutive months, amid accusations of authoritarianism and electoral fraud.
