Mohammed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar, said that this agreement reflects the company’s firm commitment to contribute to supporting Kazakhstan’s efforts to achieve its ambitious goals in the field of clean energy, pointing to the strategic investments and partnerships that Masdar has in the Central Asia region, and that this The project constitutes an important addition to its project portfolio and contributes to achieving its goal of developing renewable energy projects with a capacity of 100 gigawatts by 2030.
For her part, Gulzan Nalibayeva said that this step comes within the framework of the investment agreement signed between the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan and Masdar to develop the station, and that it would contribute to strengthening the infrastructure for renewable energy projects in Kazakhstan and moving forward towards a sustainable and more flexible economy.
The station is Masdar’s first project in Kazakhstan, which is considered the largest economy in the Central Asia region, as it is located in the south of the country and includes a battery system for energy storage with a capacity of 600 megawatt hours.
Masdar is leading the development of the 1 GW wind power plant project in cooperation with W Solar and Kazakh Green Power, a subsidiary of Samruk-Kazina, the sovereign wealth fund of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the Investment Development Fund of Kazakhstan.
It is expected that construction of the station will begin in the first quarter of 2026, and upon completion it will provide energy for about 300,000 homes in southern Kazakhstan, in addition to contributing to avoiding the release of two million tons of carbon emissions annually. The wind power station project will play an important role in supporting Kazakhstan’s ambitions. By increasing the share of renewable energy sources to 15 percent of energy supplies by 2030, and to 50 percent by 2050, to achieve Carbon neutrality by 2060.
