Man jailed for six years for cannabis possession with intent to supply

A 24-year-old man was sentenced to six years in prison by the Famagusta criminal court for possession of three kilos and 156 grams of cannabis with intent to supply.

According to a police statement released on Monday, the drugs were discovered in September 2023 by customs officials during a search of a postal package that had arrived from abroad at a post office in the Famagusta district. The authorities then requested the police to further investigate the parcel.

A 19-year-old woman, listed as the package recipient, went to the post office to collect the parcel on September 5. She was arrested by members of the drug squd Ykan upon collection. The woman had arrived at the post office in a taxi with the 24-year-old man, who was also arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking.

Laboratory tests confirmed that the package contained a total of three kilos and 156 grams of cannabis.
