A Robeson Township man has been charged with homicide by vehicle and related charges in connection with a June 6 fatal crash in Caernarvon Township, police announced Monday.
Matthew M. Slauch, 23, turned himself in Monday after an arrest warrant was issued in the June 6 crash at Morgantown and Elverson roads.
Investigators gave this account:
At about 8 a.m. on June 6, police were called to the scene of a serious crash in which a vehicle rolled over and an occupant was trapped.
Scott Wagner, 64, Spring Township, was pronounced dead at the scene. Slauch was driving the other vehicle in the crash and was transported to Reading Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Police determined Slauch was traveling at 76 mph in a 55 mph zone at the time of the crash. They also found that he had been illegally passing vehicles on Morgantown Road prior to the crash and that his vehicle at one time was traveling in excess of 100 mph.
Slauch was charged with homicide by vehicle, accidents involving death or personal injury while not properly licensed, recklessly endangering another person, driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked and a series of traffic-related offenses.
He was arraigned by District Judge Michael Kaufman, and his bail was set at $75,000. He was working to make bail as of late Monday afternoon.
