Man charged in North Carolina Central University homecoming quadruple shooting

DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — An Orange County man convicted of inflicting serious injury with a deadly weapon is facing the same charge in connection with a shooting at North Carolina Central University that injured four people, a warrant says.

The shooting occurred on Oct. 26 during NCCU’s homecoming. On Nov. 11, NCCU campus police issued a warrant for Jerrick Dennard Woods, 20, of Efland. Woods was arrested on Tuesday, according to court records.

The warrant says Woods is charged with four felonies:

  • Assault with a deadly weapon with serious injury
  • Possession of a firearm by a felon
  • Discharging firearm on educational property
  • Possession of a gun on educational property

According to the warrant, Woods was convicted of assault with a deadly weapon with serious injury in 2023.

Court records show Woods received a $250,000 secured bond. He made his first appearance in Durham County Court on Wednesday and is scheduled to appear again on Dec. 10.

The shooting was the second of two active shooter incidents that occurred during NCCU homecoming. No one was hurt during the first incident and police said the incidents were unrelated.
