A cordon was set up as a precaution while the MoD’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal team attended the scene to examine the item and confirmed the area was safe.

Later the same day, officers arrested a 35-year-old man from Folkestone in connection with the incident.

The site is near the Royal Victoria Hospital and is home to the East Kent Personality Disorder service which provides therapy sessions for patients.

Radnor Park West was shut by police as a precaution.

An MoD spokesperson added an Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was sent to the building after being contacted by the police.

The item was non-hazardous and returned to the custody of the police.

A KMPT spokesperson said earlier this week: “We are grateful to Kent Police and the Ministry of Defence’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal team for their swift response to a suspicious package at one of our buildings this morning.

“The safety of our patients and staff is our absolute priority and we will continue to liaise with the relevant authorities.”
