Cambuslang Colts 08s 2 Lochnell 08s 4
GDYFL U15S DIV 3
It was back to league duties for Lochnell this week and an away game at Toryglen Regional Football Centre against Cambuslang Colts.
Both teams started out strong with the majority of chances going Cambuslang’s way however it was Lochnell who broke the deadlock going one nil up after 23 minutes courtesy of Kyle Gibson. The team galvanised Matty McFatridge was quick to add to their tally two minutes later however Cambuslang responded netting a goal just before half time.
Some half time substitutions allowed Lochnell to dominate but conceding a penalty from a hand ball decision meant Cambuslang were able to equalise. This kicked Lochnell up a gear and again they were in control for the most part but they just could not break down the Cambuslang defence.
Five minutes from full time when it looked like the game was heading to a draw Lochnell were awarded a free kick from well outside the box. Taken by Lewis Rae the long range effort bounced awkwardly and the Cambuslang keeper was beaten, score 3-2.
The home team responded well but their forward pressing left them exposed at the back which allowed Ronnie Welsh to make a darting run down the right wing and loft a ball in to the box which dipped over the keeper. In what was another tremendous display of youth football from both teams the closely contested match ended 4-2 in favour of Lochnell.
