Projects are underway to improve mobility for all members of the public in the city of Limassol, the Ministry of Transport announced.
Within the first quarter of 2026, projects to enhance road safety and functionality for cyclists, pedestrians, and the disabled in the district’s urban centers are expected, it was announced on Tuesday.
To this end, the public works department had already signed a deal with a contracting company, following a bidding process, the announcement said, for the amount of roughly €2.2 million plus VAT.
The project aims to upgrade infrastructure and encourage sustainable transport, through installation of pavements, access ramps, road markings and crossing points, as well as notification systems for people the visually impaired.
Works to enhance the cycling experience by improving road safety and functionality are envisioned, including bike lanes and bicycle parking to be constructed at central traffic points and at government buildings.
The integrated project, costing €2,199,566.00 plus VAT, has an implementation period of 15 months and falls under “Next Generation” EU funding towards improving accessibility of cyclists, pedestrians, and the disabled in urban centers through the EU’s recovery and resilience mechanism.
