Letter to editor: Reaction to GOP inspires need to vote

Letter to editor: Reaction to GOP inspires need to vote

“Something evil this way comes.”

This line is haunting me as the election approaches and I read the Republican playbook for America’s future, Project 2025. I have a visceral reaction to its message, much as the one I experienced on first reading “The Handmaid’s Tale” by Margaret Atwood, a book so upsetting that I couldn’t finish reading it.

Just understanding that Republicans have decided that No, they don’t want a democracy anymore and No, they don’t believe in the Constitution any more — they want an all-powerful president with no limits to his actions, bolstered by the, now, right-wing Supreme Court whose recent decision grants that president immunity for those actions.

I don’t recognize our country anymore. Buffoons and degenerates are being considered for the highest posts in our land.

We are entitled to outrage but more important, we have an alternative — electing Democrats for every slot on the ballot. Thanking our excellent current local, state and national legislators by re-electing them to their offices in record numbers. Montgomery County can do it. Join me.
