LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – If dogs could talk, Mr. Deeds, the mascot for the Good Deed Project in Las Vegas would have quite the story.
Thieves stole the 700-pound stuffed Sharpei on Nov. 5th. Three days later, a tip from someone who saw a post from Nexstar’s 8 News Now ended with the recovery of the 10-foot dog. Ten days later, Mr. Deeds was finally homeward-bound.
They say every dog has its day and the happy homecoming on Friday came with a police escort. All the staff and volunteers at the Good Deed Project said they’re feeling like a lucky dog themselves.
However, it was no easy lift. Mr. Deeds’ massive size complicated the rescue. The stuffed pooch, however, is 700-pounds of pure puppy love.
“We’re very excited to have him home and be done with this whole fiasco,” Mandy Telleria, the Executive Director of the Good Deed Project said.
Snatched from the Good Deed Project warehouse off Eastern Avenue and Sunset Road last week, Mr. Deeds showed up on the other side of town at Rainbow Boulevard and Spring Mountain Road.
“Two of his legs are broken and his nose is a little ruffed up. He’s had a rough week,” said Telleria.
He may be hard to miss, but was definitely the underdog in this dog-napping “tail.”
“He’s been under investigative hold with the police because of a warrant,” Telleria explained. He’s now out of the dog pound and back in his dog house.
“He won’t be staying outside. He’ll be taking a nap inside,” Telleria said.
No word yet if the thieves have been collared, but perhaps, a microchip for the big pup is in order. The non-profit said they’ll be working to add some security measures to keep staff and volunteers, and Mr. Deeds, safe.
