kTown Hall Coworking hosts body doubling sessions to improve productivity

kTown Hall will once again open its doors for a free Coworking Day on Friday, Oct. 25. This time, the shared workspace welcomes local professionals to try body doubling to improve their productivity.

Body doubling, also known as parallel working, is a productivity technique where at least two people complete tasks in the same physical or virtual space to encourage focus and accountability.

While this strategy is often encouraged for those with ADHD, almost anyone can benefit.

“Sometimes you need a little push to help you complete a difficult or tedious task,” Amy Miller, community manager of kTown Hall, said in the announcement. “It helps to know someone else is working hard too — and will notice if you start procrastinating. You may not have that at your home office, but kTown Hall can provide it for a day.”

kTown Hall will hold a morning body doubling session in its conference room from 10 a.m. to noon and an afternoon session from 1 to 3 p.m. After registering for Free Coworking Day, sign up for one or both sessions. All that is needed is a specific project to focus on and the willingness to work distraction free for two hours.

While not in the body doubling distraction free zone, guests are encouraged to meet the kTown Hall coworking community and experience what the space has to offer.

Coworking allows freelancers, remote workers, small business owners, or anyone without a traditional office to share a common workspace without being committed to a long term lease. Although coworking existed before the pandemic, it has become more popular since more positions became remote, according to the announcement.

kTown Hall Coworking, located in the old Kutztown Town Hall building at 277 Fair St., provides high speed internet and a professional office space that includes desks, couches, a kitchenette, an AV-enabled conference room, and private booths to take phone calls or video meetings. With several membership options ranging from day passes to a permanent desk with 24/7 access, kTown Hall offers the flexibility to choose what works best for an individual or business. Memberships can be adjusted on a month-to-month basis.

“Remote work has many benefits, but it can be isolating,” Anne Timpe, community director of kTown Hall, said in the announcement. “Many members have come to us because they wanted to be around other professionals at least part of the time, but still retain the flexibility of remote work that they enjoy so much.”

Timpe said kTown Hall not only provides a comfortable space and office amenities, but also builds a community.

“Members learn from each other and have a chance to discuss their personal and professional interests, both informally and in our monthly Lightning Talks. We’ve had several members share leads and collaborate,” said Timpe. “We also enjoy each other’s company during Member Lunches and other community events.”

The free Coworking Day will conclude with a networking happy hour from 4 to 5 p.m. to give guests and members a chance to mingle over food and beverages.

Doors open on Friday, Oct. 25, at 8 a.m. but guests can arrive any time. Attending a body doubling session is encouraged but not required. For more information or to reserve a desk, contact Anne Timpe at 610-655-5419 or register at www.ktownhall.com/events.
