A statement quoted Netanyahu as saying at the beginning of a political-security meeting: “I committed Iran Big mistake tonight, and you will pay for it.”

While Washington expressed its full support for its ally Israel, the Iranian army said that any direct intervention by Israel’s supporters against Tehran would push Iran to launch a “strong attack on their bases and interests” in the region.

Fears have increased that Iran and the United States will be drawn into a regional war, with Israel intensifying its attack on Lebanon in the past two weeks, including the start of a ground operation there on Monday, and its year-long war on the Gaza Strip.
