‘Incredibly talented’ ex-WWE star wants to quit AEW for HHH reunion

Malakai Black wanted to quit AEW to rejoin WWE and reunite with Triple H, a new report has claimed.

In an Instagram statement over the weekend, which you can read by clicking here, Black spoke openly about his mental health struggles, after confirming the reports that he’d asked to leave AEW.

The former WWE Superstar explained that he’d asked to AEW and, for the first time in his career, was going to take some time away from the ring to work things through.

Latest on Malakai Black’s future

However, Dave Meltzer is reporting on Wrestling Observer Radio that part of the reason Malakai asked to leave AEW is because he wants to go back to WWE.

Malakai Black (Aleister Black in WWE) is a former NXT Champion, who enjoyed arguably the most successful spell of his career working for Triple H before his main roster move in 2019.

And Meltzer has suggested that Black wanted to return to WWE following his release last year to work with Triple H once again, via No DQ.

Obviously, he wanted to go back to WWE and he had a lot of time left on his deal. I think 4 and a half years left on the deal.

Is Aleister Black rejoining WWE?

So, reports from reliable sources seem to suggest that Black wants to go and work for WWE again, but it isn’t as simple as that.

As noted, Black’s real with AEW wasn’t believed to have expired until 2027, and it’s unclear whether or not he’s even been let out of his contract yet.

In his aforementioned statement, Black said that he’s going to be taking some time away from the ring, and claimed that he’d asked to leave AEW, but didn’t say whether or not his request had been granted.

However, if he has been let go by AEW and allowed to leave, there are reports from Fightful Select which suggest that he couldn’t just go and work for WWE again.

Fightful Select is reporting that the assumption from the AEW roster is that Black has left the company, but that he was granted a “conditional release” with a lengthy non-compete clause, which would prevent him just joining WWE right away.

There’s no word on the legitimacy of these reports, but Black seemed to dispute them in his statement on Instagram, so perhaps he has just been granted a traditional release and could join WWE again once the returns to wrestling.
