The Lebanese Hezbollah group announced that it launched a missile targeting an Israeli Mossad headquarters near Tel Aviv.
The group explained, in a statement today, that this is the headquarters responsible for the assassinations of leaders and the bombing of wireless communication devices (pagers) and also (walkie-talkies) used by members of the group.
The Israeli army announced that sirens sounded in Tel Aviv today when air defenses intercepted a surface-to-surface missile after detecting it coming from Lebanon.
There were no reports of damage or injuries. The army said there had been no change to civil defense instructions for central Israel. Sirens also sounded in other areas of central Israel, including the city of Netanya.
Hezbollah has fired hundreds of rockets and missiles into Israel in recent days as a months-long conflict across the border escalates.
The Israeli military carried out its most intense air strikes of the war this week, targeting Hezbollah leaders and hitting hundreds of targets in Lebanon, killing more than 500 people and wounding more than 1,800.
Ibrahim Qubaisi, a Hezbollah military commander, was killed in an Israeli air strike on Beirut yesterday.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu postponed his trip to New York to attend the UN General Assembly meetings from Wednesday to Thursday, in light of the escalation between the Israeli army and Hezbollah.
The Prime Minister’s Office said, “Netanyahu will travel to deliver his speech at the United Nations tomorrow (Thursday) instead of tonight, and will return Saturday evening,” noting that “during the day, the Prime Minister will hold discussions to discuss the continued attacks in Lebanon.”
