A 20-year-old student from Greece died in Nicosia on Sunday, after a car crash with another seven people, police said.
The 20-year-old girl, Eirini Kontogiorgou, has been a passenger along with another six people in a car driven by a 20-year-old man.
Kontogiorgou had been in the back seat with another four people, three men 28, 21, and 20, and another 20-year-old girl.
The crash occurred when the 20-year-old driver lost control of the vehicle around 3:10am on Archangelos Michael Avenue in Engomi near a roundabout.
Another 20-year-old man, who was in the passenger seat was also injured in the accident, who had injuries to his elbow. After being taken to hospital he was released.
The driver was given an alcotest and registered a 55 mg% instead of the 9 mg% allowed for novice drivers. Police arrested the young man as per a court warrant and he was held for questioning.
