Four scary ways France could line up at 2022 World Cup

France are currently second favourites to lift the 2022 World Cup.

Which isn’t too much of a surprise when you consider the plethora of world-beating talent available to them.

Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema will lead the charge for the French.

Meanwhile, Christopher Nkunku, Ousmane Dembele, Antoine Griezmann and Kingsley Coman will all jockey for positions across the remainder of the attack.

Les Bleus can also lay claim to a seriously impressive midfield that’s headlined by N’Golo Kante.

And the defence? Well, they’ll hardly be leaking goals with seasoned veterans like Raphael Varane and Hugo Lloris commanding the side.

All things considered they look like real contenders for the tournament and the main rival to Brazil – who we have to say are also looking ridiculously frightening this year.

We did an article on the five terrifying ways they might line up in Qatar which you can view HERE.

So, having reviewed the Selecao we thought it was only fair to turn our attention to France and assess four ways they could line up in Qatar.

Option 1: 4-2-2-2

The only thing we know for sure with France is that Mbappe and Benzema are certain starters.

Whether they play two or three men in attack could vary by game and Didier Deschamps’ preference.

GK: Hugo Lloris

RB: Benjamin Pavard
CB: Raphael Varane
CB: Jules Kounde
LB: Theo Hernandez

CDM: N’Golo Kante
CDM: Aurelien Tchouaméni
CAM: Ousmane Dembele
CAM: Antoine Griezmann

ST: Kylian Mbappe
ST: Karim Benzema

What a starting XI that would be. Maybe most impressive of all when it comes to France, though, is their seriously impressive squad depth.

William Saliba, Lucas Hernandez or Presnel Kimpembe could all come in at centre back.

Meanwhile Ferland Mendy will provide plenty of competition at left back.

Even in the centre of the park, France can consider Eduardo Camavinga and Paul Pogba as two other very capable options.

Option 2: 4-3-3

GK: Hugo Lloris

RB: Benjamin Pavard
CB: Raphael Varane
CB: Jules Kounde
CB: Theo Hernandez

CDM: Aurelien Tchouaméni
CM: N’Golo Kante
CM: Paul Pogba

RW: Kylian Mbappe
ST: Karim Benzema
LW: Moussa Diaby

Diaby has been tearing it up in the Bundesliga for Bayer Leverkusen over the past couple of seasons and would add even more blistering pace to Les Bleus’ frontline.

Option 3: 4-2-3-1

GK: Hugo Lloris

RB: Benjamin Pavard
CB: Raphael Varane
CB: Jules Kounde
CB: Theo Hernandez

CDM: Aurelien Tchouaméni
CDM: N’Golo Kante
RAM: Kylian Mbappe
CAM: Christopher Nkunku
LAM: Kingsley Coman

ST: Karim Benzema

Although if Diaby has been tearing it up in Germany, then Nkunku has made himself Prime minister.

Playing in an advanced role at RB Leipzig he chipped in with an incredible 49 goal contributions for his club last campaign and could be a huge asset to France at the World Cup.

Option 4: 4-3-1-2

GK: Hugo Lloris

RB: Benjamin Pavard
CB: Raphael Varane
CB: Jules Kounde
CB: Theo Hernandez

CDM: Aurelien Tchouaméni
CM: N’Golo Kante
CM: Antoine Griezmann

CF: Christopher Nkunku
ST: Kylian Mbappe
ST: Karim Benzema

The final formation would see France play a more compact, direct version of play but one that could be carried out to great effect, nonetheless.

Griezmann would also be used as a midfielder. However, with his especially high work rate that shouldn’t be a problem.

Watch out, Brazil, the French team might just have everything it takes to better you this winter.

Can you guess where these 40 players made their pro debut?
