First lady Philippa Karsera Christodoulides is on Wednesday set to begin work as the foreign ministry’s director of consular affairs, according to reports.
Newspaper Phileleftheros wrote that Karsera had taken leave without pay for 18 months after her husband Nikos Christodoulides became president last year. However, her leave of absence period is set to expire, and she has not requested that it be renewed.
As such, she will return to full time employment after Tuesday’s public holiday.
Before her husband was elected president, she had previously served as deputy secretary-general for European affairs at the foreign ministry, as well as having served as the head of the department for EU-Turkish affairs and as head of the crisis management department.
Phileleftheros reported that as well as returning to full time employment, Karsera “will also meet the requirements of the first lady’s obligations”.
The Cyprus Mail attempted to contact the foreign ministry.
