Celebrating diversity, and creativity and promoting the inclusion of people with disabilities is the main mission of a brand-new festival that is ongoing in Larnaca. The first edition of the European Art and Culture Disability Festival DIS will continue until Tuesday.
Across the festival’s five days, it will activate Larnaca’s central hub and fill it with a variety of events. Exhibitions workshops, theatrical performances, academic presentations, and the showcasing of significant works for the disability community will be on. Through them, the festival seeks to inspire and encourage cultural dialogue and cooperation among different communities.
“The festival takes its name from the annual art exhibition DIS organised by the Neofytos Cultural Organisation since its inception,” explain organisers. “This year, the exhibition takes on a pan-European character, inviting participation from other countries and offering a unique platform for artists and creators with disabilities to showcase their work.”
With the motto Together, We Are Better!, the festival aims to promote a message of unity and collaboration, celebrating diversity and placing it in the spotlight. Beyond highlighting art and culture, DIS aims to make a statement about the importance of social inclusion and cultural diversity.
“Larnaca will be transformed into a vibrant hub of creativity,” organisers conclude, “where art serves as a bridge connecting people and ideas from across Europe.”
