Today, the Emirates Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science hosted the tenth symposium within the “Rain Enhancement Platform” series, entitled “Sustainable Water Management Strategies to Support Water Harvesting Technologies from Non-Conventional Sources,” which discussed innovative solutions to address water scarcity in arid regions.

Dr. Chakravarti Godipati, Executive Director of the Water Technology Department of the Sustainable and Renewable Energy Research Center at the Technology Innovation Institute in Abu Dhabi, spoke at the symposium, where he provided a detailed explanation of the main research areas that the Water Technology Department at the Sustainable and Renewable Energy Research Center is focusing on as part of its efforts to address the water scarcity crisis. In the region, stressing the importance of integration between sustainable water management and advanced technologies in harvesting water from the atmosphere.

Dr. Godipati also touched on rainwater management in urban areas and its role in supporting rain enhancement programs, reviewing specific examples of integration between these methods and their contribution to improving water collection and management in urban environments, which increases our benefit from harvested rainwater.

The symposium also discussed technological developments in atmospheric water harvesting, and highlighted the potential of these technologies as an effective tool for extracting water from the atmosphere, especially in remote and dry areas.

Dr. Godipati explained that this technology offers a sustainable solution for easy water extraction in areas with limited freshwater resources.

His Excellency Dr. Abdullah Al Mandoos, Director General of the National Center of Meteorology and President of the World Meteorological Organization, said: “This series of seminars comes out of our constant keenness to enhance cooperation and partnership with experts and prominent research institutions locally and internationally, such as the Technological Innovation Institute in Abu Dhabi, which received a grant.” The fifth session of the UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science, and this partnership confirms our joint commitment to finding innovative technologies and solutions that contribute to building a sustainable future for all.”

For her part, Alya Al Mazrouei, Director of the Emirates Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science, said: “While the Emirates Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science continues to invest in sustainable solutions such as cloud seeding, it is also necessary that we focus our efforts on effectively managing the rainwater collected to make the most of its storage.” And use it, as this integrated strategy will benefit both the Emirates Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science and those in charge of other rain enhancement programs, as we work together to secure sustainable water resources for all.”

The symposium discussed important topics such as integrating water harvesting techniques from non-traditional sources with sustainable water management strategies, developments in extracting water from the atmosphere and its role in enhancing water security in arid and remote areas, as well as efforts to integrate rainwater management in urban areas and rain seeding operations to improve the use of water. Water.

Dr. Godipati said: “Integrated and sustainable water management is extremely important for the UAE and the world as a whole, especially in light of the challenge of water scarcity that we are experiencing today due to the decrease in fresh water resources and the increase in demand for it. By investing in innovative solutions such as cloud seeding and harvesting water from the atmosphere.” We can enhance our ability to meet this challenge, which will reflect positively on the environment and support our efforts to preserve resources for future generations.”

As part of its continued commitment to addressing water challenges, the National Center of Meteorology, through its Emirates Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science, is organizing the “Rain Enhancement Platform” seminar series, which aims to provide an interactive virtual platform to discuss the latest developments and developments in rain enhancement science and weather modification. The platform hosts the most prominent experts and specialists to provide presentations that contribute to exchanging knowledge and experiences and informing the general public of the importance of this sector and its vital role in achieving global water security.
