The Diatopos Contemporary Art Centre, in collaboration with the El Greco Gallery in Limassol, presents a new exhibition by Paris Sergiou titled El Greco Meets Paris, opening on Saturday.
What’s special about this showcase is that the paintings of Sergiou will meet with the exceptional designs of iconic creators of the past, such as Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, Charlotte Perriand, and other pioneers of modern design, creating a dialogue between painting and artistic utility objects.
“When I first saw the works of Paris Sergiou, I was impressed by the power of his forms, shapes and colours. It seems Paris was born to paint – to create stunning and magical paintings capable of moving and touching every viewer. The young artist studies art history and the great painters of the past with care and creative curiosity, often visiting museums and galleries that serve as sources of inspiration and artistic experience,” says curator Daphne Nikita. “His spontaneous, gestural brushstrokes, executed in a free and utterly expressive manner, make his art unique and distinctive. Observing his works, it is evident that Paris has found his own artistic vocabulary, demonstrating his innate talent and originality.
“I recently had the pleasure of curating his first solo exhibition at the Diatopos Art Centre in Nicosia. For me, this exhibition was a revelation and a wonderful artistic experience. Monumental, almost museum-like paintings with themes of love, faith, maternal affection, along with energetic portraits, offer a powerful artistic experience for every art lover and beyond. I am thrilled to once again have the opportunity to curate an exhibition of Paris’ works in the beautiful space of the El Greco Gallery in Limassol.”
