Cyprus on agenda of EuroParliament plenary

Cyprus on agenda of EuroParliament plenary

A debate on the Cyprus issue – coinciding with the condemnation of the 41st anniversary of the universal declaration of independence in the north – will be included in the Plenary Session of the European Parliament, which begins on Monday.

The EP and the European Commission will discuss the latest developments in the Cyprus issue.

Speakers are expected to condemn once again the illegal unilateral declaration of independence and all attempts to legitimise it, reaffirming the need for European solidarity.

The approval of the new European Commission, to be headed in 2024-2029 by President-elect Ursula von der Leyen, will be the main point of the session.

The plenary will also discuss the European Commission’s financial forecasts and approve the agreement on the 2025 budget, in addition to the escalation in Ukraine and the Middle East.

In addition, the EP will discuss the current situation and emerging trends in combating violence against women within the EU and internationally.

On Tuesday, MEPs are expected to reaffirm their support for Ukraine and criticise Russia-North Korea military cooperation in a resolution. The vote on the Ukrainian resolution will take place on Thursday.
