A child in Cyprus was identified by the Greek police as the person who had sent threatening emails on New Year’s Day regarding bombs at Greek airports, according to reports which surfaced on Wednesday.
The child reportedly sent an email which “referred to the alleged placement of explosives at every airport in Greece”.
A case was filed against the child under Greek anti-terrorism law, while a separate case has been filed against his parents, who are accused of neglecting a minor.
The Greek authorities successfully traced the email back to the child after cooperating with Cyprus’ police and communicating via European Union channels Europol and Eurojust with their various counterparts on the island.
The Cypriot police then located the child’s house, before searching it and finding a mobile phone, a tablet, a modem and a computer, all of which were seized.
The case file will now be submitted to the competent prosecuting authority.
