The statement added that ChadIt is a major ally of the West in the war against extremists in the region, and is looking forward to fully imposing its sovereignty after 66 years of Independence.
The statement stated that the decision to terminate the amended defense cooperation agreement in 2019 would enable it to reconsider its strategic partnerships.
Chad has cooperated closely with Western armies in the past, but its rapprochement with Russia has increased in recent years.
The statement read: “In accordance with the terms of the agreement, Chad will adhere to the terms of the termination, including the necessary deadlines, and will cooperate with the French authorities to ensure a smooth transition.”
He added that the decision in no way undermines Chad’s relations with France.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot was in Chad on Thursday and visited the border with Sudan.
France currently deploys about a thousand soldiers and warplanes in Chad.
