Unions in the cement sector, who have been on strike for over two weeks, will meet in Nicosia on Sunday afternoon to discuss their next moves.
The meeting follows a call by the employers to pause the strike for three months to allow new negotiations to be held.
Unions Peo, Sek and Deok will meet to “see how we will continue,” Peo’s Michalis Papanicolaou said.
Sek’s Stelios Tsiapoutis told the Cyprus News Agency that the employers’ proposal did not come up with anything new.
It is thought the meeting will continue for as long as it takes to reach an agreement.
The ongoing strike over overtime pay has brought the construction industry to a standstill.
Labour Minister Yiannis Panayiotou has urged all parties involved to deal with the situation “which went from a small difference into a huge problem.” He expressed hope that better oversight of working conditions could lead to a positive resolution.
Unions have complained that rights taken away from them during the financial crisis have not been returned to them, while the minister’s proposal allows for a 13 per cent pay rise, according to the Employers and Industrialists Federation (Keve).
