Cabinet approves creation of LGBTQI national strategy

The cabinet decided on Wednesday to create a national strategy for the LGBTQI community in Cyprus, to address discrimination, safeguard equality and safety and build a society without exclusions.

Citizen’s commissioner Panayiotis Palates, who will be undertaking to prepare and implement the strategy, said after the meeting that a committee would be set up with representatives from Accept Cyprus and the ministries of justice, interior and health. Representatives from other ministries were also welcome, he added.

Palates said this was “yet another project implemented in line with the pre-election statements of President Nikos Christodoulides.”

He added that the committee would be holding its first meeting next week and would begin looking into all the problems reported by the LGBTQI community.
