Central Berks Regional police are investigating an unusual burglary, with the suspect presumably narrowed down to someone who knows how to operate heavy construction equipment.
On Saturday about 2:20 a.m., police were dispatched for an alarm at the Truist Bank ATM at 1121 Memorial Highway, next to Dunkin Donuts in the village of Oley.
When officers arrived, they encountered a front-end loader with its engine running, but no operator. The small brick building housing the ATM was upended.
They determined the unidentified operator flipped the building in an attempt to remove the ATM but bailed when the alarm activated.
Police processed the loader for evidence. They’re canvassing the area in search of security camera footage but have yet to identify a suspect.
Anyone who may have video footage or any tips that can help in the investigation is asked to call Central Berks Regional Police Department at 610-77-1100.
