Boxing legend reveals huge payday for exhibition match

Floyd Mayweather has revealed how much money he stands to earn from his exhibition boxing match against Mikuru Asakura.

Over the course of the last few years, Floyd Mayweather has spent his days enjoying retirement in a pretty interesting way – by continuing to fight.

The boxing sensation retired as a professional with a record of 50-0, with many calling him the greatest boxer of all-time. At the very least, he’s in the conversation, which is a testament to his insane longevity in the sport.

Alas, it’s hard to walk away from such a good thing, which is why ‘Money’ has taken on a parade of exhibition bouts with a whole lot more planned in the months to come.

This weekend at RIZIN 38, Mayweather will go head to head with Mikuru Asakura in a three-round exhibition contest at the famous Saitama Super Arena.

The meeting will give the 45-year-old a chance to further expand his reach in Asia, following on from his dominant victory over Tenshin Nasukawa in December 2018.

As he prepares to try and move forward from his outing against Logan Paul, Floyd spoke to Daily Mail about the Asakura fight and how much he’ll earn once the dust settles.

“It’s always a few million a minute,” Mayweather said. “From this exhibition alone I will making somewhere upwards of $15-20million. That’s just from this exhibition. So, it’s cool. Nine minutes, 20 million, not bad.”

“Exhibitions are also giving me a chance to travel more. I have always traveled a lot but I am able to entertain people all over the world. I wasn’t able to do a real fight in Japan but they love when I do exhibitions.

“They love for me to come over and perform. It gives them a little bit of a chance to see the old Mayweather. It’s a great feeling. I make great money from these exhibitions. But like I told you, I am not taking any abuse. If they were doing some bodily harm I would have to walk away completely. I am not going to put myself in a position where I am getting brutally beaten or I am taking punishment.”

The McGregor rematch?

Back in summer 2017, Floyd Mayweather beat Conor McGregor in one of the biggest boxing fights ever. The crossover event produced blockbuster numbers at the box office and lately, we’ve been hearing rumours that they could be looking to run it back in 2023.

Buckle up, folks, because Floyd isn’t done just yet.
