The White House announced on Thursday that US President Joe Biden will host a summit with his counterparts from Japan, Australia and India within the framework of the Quad group in Delaware on September 21.
The leaders will discuss a range of topics related to the Indo-Pacific region, including natural disaster response, maritime security, high-quality infrastructure, climate and clean energy, and cybersecurity, White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement.
According to the statement, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the talks in Wilmington. Biden has a private residence in the city.
The upcoming summit “will focus on strengthening strategic alignment among our countries, and advancing our shared vision of a free and open Indo-Pacific,” the spokeswoman said.
The four countries have been holding the Quad Leaders Summit annually since 2021. India was originally scheduled to host the summit this year, but the venue was shifted to the United States due to the US presidential elections scheduled for November 5, according to diplomatic sources.
New Delhi will chair the talks next year, the White House said.
