Bellemeade Street Parking Deck to be demolished in downtown Greensboro

Bellemeade Street Parking Deck to be demolished in downtown Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — The City of Greensboro has announced its intention to demolish the Bellemeade Street Parking Deck.

In a Friday news release, Greensboro stated that “structural issues related to the materials used when the deck was built in 1989” are the reason why the deck needs to be demolished.

“The City reviewed multiple engineering options, determining it is not cost-effective to invest additional money into the aging facility,” said City Manager Nathaniel ‘Trey’ Davis. “It’s time to move toward long term solutions, which involves preparing the deck for demolition.”

People with parking passes for the Bellemeade deck are asked to find another parking option by Feb. 15, 2025.

“The goal is to ensure parkers have adequate time to make plans to relocate,” Davis continued. “In light of this potential inconvenience, parkers who relocate to another City-owned facility, are eligible for a 50% discount from the current monthly rate.”

That discounted rate will be available for the next six months.

The top levels of the parking deck have been closed for years due to structural damage and concerns about the integrity of the deck.
