Ana Navarro Shuts Down Joy Behar For Comparing Abortion Laws to Women’s Rights in Iran on ‘The View’: “Let’s Not Make That Comparison”

Ana Navarro made her first appearance of the week on today’s episode of The Viewwhere she was quick to shut down an off-color comparison made by fellow co-host Joy Behar.

During one of the panel’s Hot Topics segments, the ladies covered the protests that erupted in Iran following the murder of a young woman, Mahsa Amini, for allegedly not wearing her hijab the correct way. Meanwhile, CNN’s chief international anchor, Christiane Amanpour, was set to interview the Iranian president in New York, but when she declined to wear a hijab, he called off the interview.

Speaking of the reporter, Navarro said, “She is a groundbreaker and I think she realizes her role and the symbolism of what that means,” before adding that the choice to not wear a head covering “was an act of solidarity with what is going on in Iran. And we should all be standing in solidarity with what’s going on in Iran.”

However, Behar jumped in with a bit of a subject change, comparing the women’s rights issues in Iran to those in the United States.

“Well we should be standing in solidarity in this country for men who are trying to control us with their abortion laws,” she told the audience.

Navarro was not having it and she immediately fired back, “Let’s not make that comparison.” She went on to point out that “those women over there are getting killed” when Behar asked why the two can’t be compared.

“I’m not saying they’re equivalent, I’m just saying we need to watch what’s going on in our own country too,” Behar defended. “Because these men will try to control women.”

Navarro went on to point out that the two are “very different conversations.”

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
