The Alexandros thunderstorms plaguing Greece are slowly moving east towards Cyprus, prompting the national met office to issue a yellow weather warning for severe storms starting Saturday.
The warning is valid from 10pm on Saturday until 8pm on Sunday.
According to the met office, isolated heavy thunderstorms are expected to affect initially the north, the west and the south coastal areas and gradually the rest of the island.
Precipitation rates are expected to exceed the range of 35 millimetres per hour. Hail is expected while surface wind is expected to be variable.
The weather on Saturday night is expected to be mainly cloudy with local rain and isolated thunderstorms, initially on the north and west coasts and gradually in other areas.
Hail is also expected to fall. Temperature will drop to around 12 degrees Celsius inland, 15 C on the south and east coasts, 18 C on the west and north coasts and around 8 C in the higher mountains.
