Has any of you tried to read some words in reverse, such as pronouncing “matar” as “thumb”? At first glance, the matter seems simple, but a Syrian girl residing in Germany named Reem Al Karim She shattered that belief, as she could pronounce backwards very quickly, which qualified her to achieve an important record in the encyclopedia. Guinness.
Sky News Arabia contacted Reem Al Karim and we had this conversation with her:
Q: First of all, congratulations on the award, and my question is: Did you expect to enter the Guinness Book of Records?
A: Thank you very much. No, I never expected to win this award, especially since I did not imagine that this talent that I have could be a reason for entering the encyclopedia.
Q: When did you discover this talent that may seem strange to some?
A: It is a talent I have had since I was young, but when I became 17 years old, I discovered that it is not a normal thing, especially since I did not talk about it with anyone else, so I thought without realizing that all people can do this thing.
Q: Was there any development of this talent from the beginning of its discovery until now?
A: Of course, in the beginning, I struggled when I was trying to pronounce simple words, and this required a lot of concentration, but now I can say complete sentences backwards with ease.
Q: Aside from the award, you live outside your country. How do you feel?
A: Of course, I always miss my country, Syria, even if I live in a strange country. I am always searching for Syria Everywhere I go, for example, when I want to eat, I look for Syrian restaurants, and at home I watch Syrian series. I definitely go to visit Syrian shops like those that sell the sweets that we used to eat when we were young children. I always look for a part of Syria wherever I am. With it.
Q: After Guinness, what are the next goals or challenges that you dream of achieving?
A: My next goal is to fulfill one of my biggest dreams, a dream I’ve had since I was a little girl, which is to get into the industry representation. Acting always seemed to me like an impossible dream, but I think it has now become more realistic and achievable, and this is the path I intend to take.
