Abdullah bin Zayed heads the country’s delegation to the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York

His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, will head the UAE delegation to the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, which will be held from 24 to 30 September in New York.

Under His Highness’s leadership, the UAE delegation engages with UN member states, officials and other partners in discussions on pressing global challenges, including unhindered humanitarian access, addressing climate change, promoting global health and well-being, and preventing and resolving conflicts peacefully.

On this occasion, His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan stressed the importance of the multilateral system based on the UAE’s vision to create a better world for all, noting that the country will continue to engage constructively with partners from member states of the multilateral system, and support efforts aimed at finding collective solutions to all challenges.

His Highness stressed the great importance of international cooperation and concerted efforts to promote peace, security and prosperity in a world of increasing polarization and societal division.

This year, the UAE will participate in the Future Summit, a pioneering event called for by His Excellency Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations.

The summit aims to revitalize multilateralism so that the international community can work together and respond in a more comprehensive and constructive way to end conflicts, alleviate hunger and water scarcity, prevent climate emergencies, as well as address new challenges in the digital domain and outer space.

The UAE delegation is also participating in several high-level meetings related to the humanitarian response in Gaza and Sudan, the future of artificial intelligence, enabling climate action, bridging the digital divide, climate resilience related to sea level rise, antimicrobial resistance, ending plastic pollution, and many other related topics.

For his part, His Excellency Ambassador Mohammed Abushahab, Permanent Representative of the UAE to the United Nations, said: “The work of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly and the Future Summit is a crucial opportunity to enhance international cooperation, so that together we can confront the current security, humanitarian and environmental challenges.”

“The UAE delegation will build on our many achievements from the previous session, including the country’s membership in the Security Council for 2022-2023, and the exceptional achievements of our presidency of the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), to continue to promote multilateralism, which is a goal we seek to achieve at the 2026 UN Water Conference, which will be held in the UAE,” he added.

The UAE delegation to the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly includes His Excellency Dr. Anwar bin Mohammed Gargash, Diplomatic Advisor to His Highness the President of the State; His Excellency Abdul Rahman bin Mohammed Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention; Her Excellency Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation; His Excellency Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Special Envoy of the UAE for Climate Change and President of the Conference of the Parties (COP28); Her Excellency Shamma bint Suhail Faris Al Mazrui, Minister of Community Development, Youth Climate Champion at the Conference of the Parties (COP28); His Excellency Sheikh Salem bin Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of Culture; Her Excellency Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak Al Shamsi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment; His Excellency Sheikh Shakhbout bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State; Her Excellency Ohood bint Khalfan Al Roumi, Minister of State for Government Development and the Future; His Excellency Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications; His Excellency Ahmed bin Ali Al Sayegh, Minister of State; His Excellency Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, Minister of State; and Her Excellency Mariam bint Mohammed. Al Muhairi, Head of the International Affairs Office at the Presidential Court, and His Excellency Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Internal and External Defense Affairs Committee at the Federal National Council.

The delegation also includes Her Excellency Razan Khalifa Al Mubarak, President of the International Union for Conservation of Nature, UN Climate Change Champion at COP28, Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, CEO of the UAE Independent Climate Change Accelerators Authority (UICCA), Her Excellency Noura Al Suwaidi, Secretary-General of the General Women’s Union, and Her Excellency Reem Abdullah Al Falasi, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood.
