France’s final inflation rate rises to 2.2% in August

Data from the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies showed that FranceConsumer prices rose 2.2 percent in August on a year-on-year basis, in line with preliminary data released late last month, data showed on Friday.

The data showed that the French inflation rate, coordinated with European Union It fell in August compared to a reading of 2.7 percent in July.

The institute said the decline in inflation was due to a sharp decline in energy prices, especially electricity, as well as a drop in petroleum product prices.

On a monthly basis, prices rose 0.6 percent in August after rising 0.2 percent in July.

The median forecast of economists polled by Reuters was for the EU-harmonized preliminary inflation rate to come in at 2.2 percent in August.
