A new Israeli raid on the southern suburb of Beirut

A new Israeli raid targeted the southern suburb of Beirut on Sunday, according to a security source and official media, while the Israeli army announced a strike on the suburb.

A security source told Agence France-Presse, “A new Israeli raid targeted the southern suburbs of Beirut.”

AFP reporters heard an explosion and saw thick smoke rising from the area.

The official National News Agency reported “a violent raid carried out by Israeli warplanes a short while ago on an area between Al-Shayah and Al-Ghobeiry in the southern suburb.”

She continued, “Clouds of smoke rose above the area,” adding that “ambulances rushed to the targeted location.”

An eyewitness from the Ghobeiry area said that he saw “a building collapse after being hit by a missile.”

For its part, the Israeli army announced in a statement, “The Israeli army carried out a precise strike in the Beirut suburb area. We will provide you with the details.”

This new raid comes the day after Hezbollah announced the killing of its Secretary-General, Hassan Nasrallah, in an Israeli air strike on Friday in the southern suburb of Beirut, which raised fears of further escalation in the country.

Since Monday, areas in southern and eastern Lebanon, up to the southern suburb of Beirut, have been subjected to heavy Israeli bombardment, which has killed hundreds and forced many to flee their homes.
