A teenager was sentenced to ten months in jail on Thursday for assaulting a delivery rider in August, in Limassol.
The Limassol District Court found the 18-year-old guilty as one of two assailants who attacked a food delivery rider on August 29 in the city centre. The attackers knocked the rider off his bike, beat him and stole his bag containing €150.
The other suspect, aged 20, remains in custody awaiting trial.
This case is part of a troubling trend of attacks on foreign delivery drivers with popular delivery platform Wolt saying they usually “have a racist undertone”. Despite statements from authorities condemning the violence, incidents continue.
Just this week, there were two more attacks on delivery drivers.
So far this year, 19 attacks have been reported, mostly in Limassol, with three in the capital.
