The Israeli army said today, Friday, that it carried out a strike on the central headquarters of the Lebanese Hezbollah group in the southern suburbs of Beirut.
Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari said in a televised statement that the army “carried out a precise strike on the central headquarters of the Hezbollah terrorist organization in the suburb.”
According to Hagari, the headquarters “is located under residential buildings in the heart of the suburb in Beirut.”
A source close to Hezbollah said that six buildings were leveled as a result of the Israeli raids on the southern suburbs of Beirut.
The National News Agency in Lebanon reported on Friday that Israeli aircraft launched a series of raids on the southern suburbs of Beirut, a Hezbollah stronghold, with echoes in the capital and its environs.
Journalists reported hearing ambulance sirens shortly after the explosions. Local media broadcast live scenes that showed plumes of smoke rising from several locations in the southern suburb.
The strikes came shortly after Netanyahu pledged that military operations against Hezbollah would continue, reducing hopes for the possibility of implementing a 21-day truce called for by 12 countries and organizations this week.
Netanyahu told the United Nations General Assembly, “As long as Hezbollah chooses the path of war, Israel has no choice, and Israel has every right to remove this threat and return our citizens to their homes safely,” adding that operations against the party “will continue until we achieve our goals.”
