T+ T – Normal size

The Roads and Transport Authority has begun implementing the operational schedule for the seasonal network initiative for winter marine transport services, which aims to use big data to analyze the daily pattern of passengers to align it with flight schedules and their frequency according to different seasons and occasions.

This initiative targets all operating marine transport services and lines: (Dubai Ferry, Abras, and Dubai Water Taxi), by changing their operating times to suit the nature of each season and the movement of the emirate’s population, tourists and visitors throughout the year, to update the operational schedules in coordination with the Business Development and Planning Department of the Transport Agency. Public.

The seasonal network of maritime transport services is flexible and works accurately and efficiently with the nature of the operating seasons, according to the well-studied plans developed by the Authority in this field, and according to precise timetables, based on the best international practices in this field.

The Authority has begun implementing this plan for the winter season, taking advantage of big data, which includes all information related to maritime transport services, including, but not limited to, the numbers of passengers, revenues, and occupancy rates achieved with the smallest details that enrich service development studies and contribute to Significantly improve network efficiency.

The use of big data and the pattern of passengers from the pioneers of maritime transport allowed for more flexibility to prepare and apply the seasonal network initiative to maritime transport, and to operate it with a studied methodology that included the use of predictive analysis in studying and analyzing network data and anticipating the impact of changes, and its flexibility in operating times and flight times. , in the numbers of passengers, occupancy rates, revenues, and the number of passengers.

The study for this project included the development of internal algorithms (Algorithms), analyzing and processing huge data from multiple sources, and developing a flexible operating plan for the maritime transport network, which can be used to align future maritime transport sector plans with the needs of customers and predict future passenger patterns in this sector.

When developing the initiative, consideration was given to the sustainability of services, meeting the needs of customers, and contributing to improving the occupancy rate of maritime transport means, and reducing operational expenses at the same time.
