Shipping minister in Egypt to strengthen maritime ties

Cyprus Deputy Shipping Minister Marina Hadjimanolis is in Egypt to strengthen maritime cooperation between the two countries.

Invited by Egypt’s Minister of Transport, the Cypriot minister will engage in key meetings in Cairo and Alexandria.

According to an official statement, Hadjimanolis “will meet with the President and CEO of the Suez Canal Authority” to explore further collaboration between the two countries, particularly around enhanced maritime connectivity and shared initiatives.

Following her engagements in Cairo, Hadjimanolis will head to Alexandria at the invitation of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT).

The announcement noted that with a legacy spanning over 50 years, the academy has made significant strides in maritime transport, engineering, and management sciences, driven by the strategic use of modern technology.

“The academy”, it continued, “is recognised internationally and has transitioned from a regional to a global influence in these fields”.

During her visit, Hadjimanolis “will meet with the President of the Academy and sign a Memorandum of Understanding,” further solidifying Cyprus and Egypt’s collaboration in the field of maritime education and training.

Finally, Hadjimanolis will also meet with the governor of Alexandria, as well as representatives of the local maritime community.
