Deputy Culture Minister Vasiliki Kassianidou stressed the need to remain focused on finding a solution to the Cyprus problem through a realistic approach and diplomatic efforts to change Turkey’s stance.
She made statements on Wednesday at the 13th Famagusta Memorial Choral Festival, held at the Lakatamia Municipal Amphitheatre.
Kassianidou expressed hope that Turkey and the Turkish Cypriot side would engage in negotiations with a positive agenda for mutual benefit, avoiding provocations and tensions on the ground.
The festival also marked the 30th anniversary of the ‘Evagoras’ music group and 50 years since the 1974 coup and Turkish invasion.
Kassianidou said that “such events preserve Cypriot traditions and strengthen ties with the occupied areas, while promoting cultural and musical education for younger generations”.
She highlighted the role of the ‘Evagoras’ group in keeping the message of return alive and preserving Cyprus’ historical and cultural identity.
“Its participation in festivals abroad also contributes to cultural diplomacy and strengthens ties with the Cypriot diaspora,” she said.
Kassianidou finally stressed the importance of continuing the fight for justice and peace in Cyprus, grounded in European principles and human rights.
She also reiterated the government’s aim to find a permanent solution that ensures a state free of occupation forces and external guarantees, promoting peace, security, and prosperity for all.
