Discover Larnaca’s inclusive and artistic CARE Festival
The second edition of the CARE Festival, organised by Larnaka 2030, is approaching soon, taking over two weekends in November. Presenting artistic activities for the whole family and young people, and focusing on mothers, women and educators, CARE Festival aims to create a mother-city that cares about its future, children and young people. Get ready for theatre and music performances, workshops, storytelling, interactive social games and plenty more.
The activities will take place in various locations in the city and region of Larnaca, on November 8-10 and 16-17. Organised in collaboration with the Cultural Foundation for Children and Youth and the Pierides Foundation, the festival will activate numerous spaces in the city, both public and private, and bring together a team of collaborators. What is truly special about the festival is that its events welcome those with physical, neurodevelopmental, and visual disabilities as well as all backgrounds as many of its workshops happen in Greek, English and Ukrainian.
In its first weekend alone, eight events will take place. First is the Clothes? What Clothes? theatrical performance at Larnaca Municipal Theatre at 6.30pm. Saturday will host more workshops for children, teens and adults and will include a walking performance, a theatre show and a fun cooking experience for little ones.
First up will be the Building a Common Ground Through Dancing workshop for those aged 16 and over from 10am to 1pm. At the pier opposite the Medieval Castle, a creative workshop for children called Let’s Build a Lighthouse will get children to create their own lighthouse using natural materials, like shells and pebbles. This event will be held in English and Ukrainian and will run from 10am to 11.30am.
Two more morning activities are scheduled for Saturday, November 9. A storytelling and theatre games event at the Youth Makerspace Larnaka in Greek and the Young Cooks: Cooking for the Environment workshop at the Pierides Museum. This workshop will show children how to use the kitchen in more eco-friendly ways. After a playful game to understand the concept of food waste and other resource waste, they will come up with their own easy recipes.
As the evening falls, performances will spread around Larnaca. The Let’s Start a Conversation walking performance will start from the Pier at 5pm and end at Mesogeios Park with 15 dance schools and the Larnaca Music School leading the way. Along Piale Pasha dozens of dancers will invite audiences to get to know each other and start a conversation through a card game with questions. At each station of the performance, the audience is confronted with a new question that each dance school addresses through choreography.
The last event for the festival’s first weekend is a theatrical performance on Sunday evening with Ahmad Jubeh and Ramzi Maqdisi from the Palestinian National Theatre. It will take place at the Larnaca Municipal Theatre G Lykourgos at 6pm and will be non-verbal, welcoming audiences of all languages and people with physical, neurodevelopmental and hearing disabilities.
In the second and final weekend of CARE Festival, another six events will take place throughout Larnaca blending the arts with social issues and mental health.
